"Baby shoes"

A pair of small, well-worn lace-up shoes is placed side by side on the seat of a simple wooden chair, its ladder back and turned legs rendered in the same muted tones as the wall behind. The shoes' laces hang loose, one trailing past the chair's edge.

The pastel palette is restrained to warm browns, grays and faded cream, softly blended for a diffuse, even light. The worn texture of the leather and the empty chair give the modest scene a tender, melancholic sense of childhood passed.
